January Sky

Frost-coated alder branches against the blue mid-day sky. It was about twenty degrees.

Lazy Days

Jasmine spends most of her time either snuggling or sleeping. Not a bad way to spend the twilight years.

Just Browsing

Out behind the Animal Shelter this afternoon...

Wednesday is my volunteer day at the Animal Shelter. When I steppped out the back with a sack of garbage for the dumpster, I saw this guy--a young bullwinkle--browsing along the edge of the woods.

New Year, Old Ends

Despite the hub-bub of New Year's Eve, the new year always seems to creep in during the post-holiday lassitude. I rouse myself from my mid-winter stupor, brush the last of the cookie crumbs from my pajamas and begin to face the new year.

Of course, I tell myself that my lethary is seasonal, the natural reaction to long nights, cooler temperatures and the urge to eat everything in sight. It is so easy to lay back and drift through the short winter days.

At least I finally got my 2010 calendars put up.

You have to take these small victories as they come...

A New Year

Daybreak over the Kenai Peninsula on Tuesday. Watching the sun climb up over the edge of the world. (click to enlarge...I'm using this as my desktop right now.)

One of the nice things about our winter is that dawn occurs at a time in the morning when everyone can enjoy it. As a deep-dyed night-person, I appreciate it.
