A Day On The Water

A visiting friend wanted to do some fishing, so we spent the day out on the water.

I hate getting up at five in the morning--or what's the point of being retired? But there is such a tranquility in the harbor in the early morning, I can answer myself. To be retired is to be able to get up early to spend a day surrounded by beauty.

Even though the sun was shining, we could see the advancing layer of fog over the water. This is looking west from the harbor toward Cook Inlet.

We stayed clear of the fog bank once we were out on the open water. The hills on the south side of Kachemak Bay were obscured, with just the highest peaks poking through.

To the north, Bluff Point was in the clear, though Anchor Point was just at the edge of the obscuration.

We live just behind the ridgeline at the center of the photo above.

And this was what we saw looking east toward the harbor behind us...

The fog had closed over the harbor and most of the Spit, almost to the mainland, where the dark line of spruce trees ends about center left. The water was flat and the weather cool--we headed to a favorite spot off of Bluff Point to fish.

(More photos tomorrow...)
