A Walk in the Woods

The day started out like all the others--overcast with temperatures in the mid-thirties. A fine rain, carried on a stiff breeze, began in mid-morning. By noon, the rain had turned to snow. Driven by a strong east wind, the snow turned the world white.

Denny asked if I would like to go for a walk and it sounded good to me. We bundled up and set out for our woods.

We stood beneath the shelter of a spruce--out of the wind and driving snow--and drank a beer apiece, listening to the whoosing wind high above in the branches.

At ground-level, we were protected from the force of the east wind, but could watch the tall trees bend and sway.

There is something so peaceful and quiet in the sight of evergreen and fresh snow....
